Goat Project
Cost Of The Goat Project:

Mountain Goats – It is recommended we start with 30 Goats and 4 Billy Goats.
This will keep the scrub down and we can sell the offspring.

Goats cost £20 each, Billy Goats £25 each.

Total cost – approx £700.

Cost of Goat house and watering hole and fencing etc. approx £500 - £700.

Milking Goats – Starting with 5 Goats and 1 Billy Goat
Milking Goats cost £25 each, Billy Goats £25

Total cost approx £150 to start.

The milking Goats will feed on Napier Grass and what we grow on the farm.
They produce approx 4 litres of milk in the morning and 4 litres in the evening – Total of 8 litres per day.
This milk sells for £1 per litre and is a very good return.
The goats normally produce up to four kids per year.

The goats will need housing, a milking shed and tick treatment every week. Plus, fencing cost between £500-£700

LATEST NEWS APRIL 2011
Before we could proceed with the Goat Project we had to fence the mountain and build an enclosure for the Goats to roam, which has now been completed.
We have 20 milking Goats which have all been treated, they go to the mountain during the day to graze then back to their housing on the farm at night.
The children are learning how to care for them and feed them.
