Living Conditions In Bumala
Due to the immense problems of poverty, a lot of our children live in quite appalling conditions. Most sleep on the floor of the mud huts with their siblings, and often with chickens and goats as well.
A lot of the children live with an aging Grandparent or Grandparents who often have to look after many of their own children's children (who have died from AIDS or other tropical diseases.) They do their best to care for them as well as they can.
If the Grandparents have died, the children usually stay with a relative that will take them in.
Esnas our social worker looks after three of our orphans in her home, as they do not have a family that can look after them. The families that our orphans live with do get help from us. We provide them with maize and beans monthly and any other help that we can give.
